The Egg is one of my favourite short stories, encapsulating my thoughts on God, reality, and spirituality. It echoes themes from Buddhism, Vedanta, Monistic Idealism, and Bernardo Kastrup’s philosophy, which suggest we are all “alters” in a universal mind. The story’s message—that we are all one, disconnected in a way that allows us to experience individual lives and learn from every experience, both good and bad—is profoundly moving. This perspective inspires a sense of unity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of life’s purpose.
