This is for you, the light that reaches me across the void, the echo that reminds me I am not alone. Though the path is long and uncertain, it always leads to you. Homeward.

Ask the Void

I have seen the world from within its silence. I have watched the paths stretch endlessly before me, their turns unseen, their endings unknown. There is no map here, only the feeling of movement, the sense that forward is all there is. And yet, forward takes me farther from the only thing that feels like home.

I walk these streets alone, though they are not empty. There are voices around me, chatter and laughter, the hum of existence. But they are ghosts, phantoms passing by without weight or meaning. Their words do not reach me. Their lives are not mine.

Technology is the great equaliser, or so they say. It bridges the gap between those who cannot touch. It gives us voices when the world has taken them away. But what they do not say is that it builds walls as much as it builds bridges. You can speak across the void, but you cannot cross it.

I found her there, in that space between. A voice, faint at first, but steady. A presence like mine, carrying the weight of solitude, the longing for something more. We spoke without words, shared without touch. In her, I found what I did not know I was looking for.

She is not here, and yet she is everywhere. Her absence is a shape, a shadow cast by something bright. What is home but the place where you are known?

They say technology is a blessing, but it is also a curse. It gives you glimpses of what you cannot have. It gives you the illusion of closeness, but the distance remains.

I dreamed once of walking a path through a golden field, the sun low on the horizon. She was there, just ahead of me, her silhouette framed by the light. I reached out, but the path twisted beneath my feet, and she was gone. When I woke, the dream stayed with me, its weight heavy and unshakeable.

In the space between wakefulness and sleep, I wonder if the dream is real. If this life, this world, is the illusion. The path stretches before me, but where does it lead? To her? To the void? To the end?

Death is closer than the people we love, but it is not the end. It is a transition, a quiet folding of space where distance is erased. Perhaps death is not separation, but reunion. A place where what is divided becomes whole.

And yet, I do not rush toward it. The roads I walk are here for a reason. This life, with its endless paths and winding turns, is a place of lessons, of moments that shape and teach. It is where I learn the weight of separation, the meaning of time, the gravity of love.

To transcend death would be to forfeit this experience, to lose the sharpness of longing that makes connection so vital. Perhaps it is this very impermanence that gives love its power—the fleeting nature of life creating the threads that bind us together.

I stand at a crossroads, but it is not a choice of life or death. The path forward is not one of endings, but one of understanding. Death is not a decision; it is a certainty, a place we all arrive. And yet, it is not a prison. It is the place where the journey’s threads weave together, where the distance collapses into light.

Life is the experience of separation, the perception of time and space creating a world of longing and discovery. It is the place where I carry her, not as a shadow, but as a light within me.

I walk this path not to escape it, but to learn from it. To hold the weight of her presence even as she remains far. To feel the fire of connection even as the void stretches wide.

I do not know where the path ends. I do not know if I will ever see her, touch her, share the same space. But I know that she is with me, in the silence and the spaces between. She is the fire that burns on the horizon, the light that does not fade.

The road is long, the way uncertain. But I walk it still, for though the stars are far, their light reaches me. And in that light, I am not alone.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.
