Once past the event horizon, travellers would find themselves moving toward a region of infinite density known as the singularity. Yet, as we’ll see, the singularity may be only one possibility for what awaits beyond the boundary. Could it be that black holes hold more than singularities—like portals to new realms, mirrors of the cosmos, or insights into the nature of reality itself?


The Singularity: Where Matter Collapses and Physics Breaks Down

In the center of a black hole lies what’s known as the singularity, a point where gravity becomes infinite and spacetime curves to an unimaginable degree. Here, the known laws of physics collapse. Some theories suggest that the incredible density and energy within a black hole’s singularity could lead to the birth of a new universe, making each black hole a kind of cosmic seed. In essence, our universe might have originated from the singularity of a black hole in another universe, creating an endless loop of birth, collapse, and rebirth.

In The Forge of God by Greg Bear, the nature of destruction and creation becomes blurred, with black holes symbolising both the end and beginning of existence. It’s a concept that implies a cyclical structure to reality—a series of universes, each birthed from the collapse of another, spreading through the cosmos in an infinite pattern.


The Cosmic Mirror: A Reflection of Reality?

Some theories suggest that inside a black hole, we might encounter a kind of cosmic mirror, where reality as we know it is turned inside out. As matter spirals toward the singularity, some speculate it could create reflections or echoes of our own universe, perhaps even acting as a testing ground for different versions of reality.
